The Weather on Your Wedding Day

A year of hard work, planning, emotions, lots of money spent and tons of excitement and the only thing you can't control out of all of this is the weather on your big day!

Emotions are high on this special day and the last thing you want is a torrential downpour just as you are about to walk down the aisle.

My best advice is to have back up plans for your back up plans.

Here at Wooden Sticks, we have a tented Pavilion a few steps away from our outdoor ceremony location. Many Saturday afternoons have been spent moving white chairs from the threat of rain outside to the comfort of the indoor structure. The tent allows you to be under the cover of a roof while gazing out the large windows at the garden view outdoors.

The biggest thing to remember is that you are marrying your true love!

Don't sweat all the details, especially the ones you can't control.

It is beautiful and comfortable. Two things that don't usually go together :)

We have sectional couches, lounge chairs, dining areas, coffee tables and big comfy cushions.

Nothing like a Royal Wedding!

It's been 5 days and I'm still re-cooperating from the 3:30 am morning on April 29th. I slept on the couch so when my alarm went off in the wee hours I would only have to open my eyes! No moving necessary.

I was asked by a local bridal magazine - Beautiful Beginnings - to share my insight on the Royal trends that would emerge from the event so it was important that I watch from the moment guests arrived.

Love, love, love the fascinators or cocktail hats! I may event sport one myself at the next wedding I attend! Definitely not like the Mickey Mouse ears Princess Beatrice wore though!

I am also a huge fan of the morning coat. So classy!!

I can't explain the feeling I got watching the entire series of events. I was awake until 9:30 am - 6 full hours of Royal coverage. I watched everything from the guests entering to the kiss on the balcony at Buckingham Palace. I'm not sure if it's because of my profession or because I just got married but I felt a kinship with Kate. Weird? I know. I can't explain it. I just felt so overwhelmed for her! I cannot imagine what she was feeling that day. Drawing from my experience I know the emotions and stree that flood you at every moment of the day. Can you imagine your wedding being broadcast around the world??? Everyone waiting to see your dress, hair, flowers etc. etc. AHHHHH! It stresses me out just thinking about it!!!

Definitely something I do not regret losing sleep over. I am thrilled that now in 20 years I can tell my kids about Wills and Kate's wedding just like my mom does with Charles and Diana's!

I'm a married women!!!

The most depressing feeling in the world is when you step off the plane at Pearson International from a 3 week holiday in Italy and the Canary Islands and the wind chills you to the bone!!!!! Seriously, it was minus 27 the day we returned. A little bit of a change from the plus 27 in the Canary Islands!!

That being said, the weather can't bring me down from the high I am currently on! My entire trip was AMAZING. The wedding day was the most overwhelming but beautiful experience of my life so far. I can't even put it in to words. It was beyond my wildest dreams.

I have attached a few photos of the unique aspects of our day.

We had a picture frame made in San Giorgio Morgeto by a local carpenter. Then we had every family come and get there picture taken with us in the frame. We are going to print a copy of each photo and send it with our thank you cards. Nice keep-sake for us and our guests!

We chose different backgrounds for a lot of our photos. It adds such a different element to the photos.
We also chose to be a bit different with the groomsmens outfits - scarves!

Don't be afraid to look like a dork! Andrea and I were doing the Tarantella (a traditional Italian dance) even though we had never done it before!

I chose a super long aisle-way and I am sure glad I did! It gave me time to let it all sink in.

Red carpet! This was a complete surprise to me when I walked around the corner. A nice surprise though!

All of my flowers - boquets, corsages, boutennieres - were all silk! Now my sisters (bridesmaids), parents, groomsmen and I get to keep these forever! No one could tell that they were fake either....

For our favours we chose to give olive oil to all the people who came from Canada and Australia and maple syrup for all of the people from Italy. THEY LOVED IT! Doing something that represents you as well as the area you are in sure goes over well. The oil is actually produced in the olive grove where we got married and it is Andrea's family business importing this oil into Canada.

We chose to do a ceremony program with tree astrology on the back. This gave people some entertainment while waiting for the ceremony to begin. It was also fitting because of our surroundings.

I still can't believe it's over. Huge rush of excitement......

That's why PHOTOS and VIDEOS are so incredibly important!!! Don't skimp on these. After it's all said and done it's all you have in the years to come :)
